Hi, I’m Jerad Hill.
A working photographer and educator with 26+ years behind the camera. I teach people how to actually use their gear — through courses, reviews, and guides, alongside my YouTube channel.
My story
I started my photography career in 2005. Before that I was building websites, and honestly that mix of technical curiosity and creative work has defined everything I’ve done since. Photography took me all over the country — from weddings to NASCAR events at Daytona International Speedway.
Education has always been a big part of what I do. In 2013 I launched Ditch Auto, a course and YouTube channel built to help people get off auto mode and learn to shoot in manual. That grew into a whole library of courses and a channel with 90,000+ subscribers.
What this site is for
This site is where I share what I’m learning as a working photographer: full courses, honest gear reviews, head-to-head comparisons, and practical guides. It works hand-in-hand with my YouTube channel — the videos are the front door, and this is where the deeper material lives.
My photography and video production services now have their own home at jeradhillphotography.com. This site stays focused on teaching and gear.
Beyond the camera
I’m a husband and father of four, a licensed pilot, and a lifelong entrepreneur. I care about doing honest work, teaching in plain language, and making things that are genuinely useful — not hype.
