Back to Basics: Plants, Patience, and the RX1R III

Days 7-9 of my daily photo challenge, featuring garden discoveries and reflections on rediscovering the joy of everyday photography

It’s been about 8 years since I last committed to daily photography. Back then, I ran a Weekly Photo Challenge on my YouTube channel that lasted for months. I uploaded videos each week to explain different techniques. It was incredibly fun, but since then, I’ve let my camera habit slide. Weeks can pass without me even picking up my camera unless it’s for paid work.

I’m only nine days into this new daily challenge, and it’s already proving difficult. Photography isn’t naturally woven into my routine anymore, so I have to consciously seek out interesting subjects. The other day, my family and I went for a walk and I spotted several things I wanted to photograph. But since the challenge requires a new photo each day, I couldn’t shoot them then. When I returned to those spots later, whatever had caught my eye was gone. That familiar frustration crept in; the same feeling I remember from when I was just starting out.

I’m not giving up though. Maybe the initial excitement for shooting has faded, but I want to reignite that spark. At minimum, this challenge will help me master the RX1R III and rediscover my love for capturing the unexpected moments in everyday life.

The response from you all has been unexpectedly heartwarming. Your comments and likes on these daily photos have meant more than you know; each one feels like encouragement to keep pushing through the challenge. I’ve even had several new subscribers join to see these Photo Notes, and some of you have chosen to support this project financially.

That wasn’t my intention when I started this challenge. I simply wanted to rebuild my relationship with photography and master this camera. But your support has become an unexpected source of motivation, reminding me that this journey resonates beyond just my own creative struggles. Thank you for being part of this process and for helping me rediscover why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
