Fitness Photography – Back Lighting – Behind The Scenes

Lately I have been challenging my photography and lighting skills by trying different styles that are not common of what I am typically shooting. Of recent, this has been fitness photography. As I am shooting, I am going to try and include a few Behind the Scenes (BTS) shots to show what I did and attempt to explain why I did it.

In the photo below, you can see I placed 2 lights behind my subject. I did this because I wanted separation from the background. Throwing light at the back of his shoulders and arms would also help define them and set him apart from the environment he was standing in. I chose 2 back lights because I wanted light to spill onto the side of his face, neck and arms. Both back lights were fired wirelessly using the Pocketwizard system.

The Setup:
2 x Canon 600EX-RT Speedlights
2 x Pocketwizards
2 x Miniphone (Pocket Wizard) to Female Hot Shoe Sync Cord
2 x Adjustable Umbrella Bracket
2 x Light Stands
1 x Pocketwizard MiniTT1 (On Camera)
