Some HDR Fun in Historic Knights Ferry

Today I made a run up to Historic Knights Ferry to shoot some product images for SparrowLane a maker of fine wine vinegars. I decided since I was up there I would have some fun with my new Canon 5D MKII. It is a lot easier to bracket images with the 5D so I set up some shots for HDR conversion in Photoshop. This is what I came up with. Click the images to view a much larger version.

I love this old bridge. So much character.

Historic Knights Ferry

This tree looks awesome in the spring when it is not dead, but it looks pretty cool in the winter time as well.

Knights Ferry is such a fun place to go hiking. It’s only about 30 minutes away from my house. I have often shot Engagement Portraits there.

More to come. Time to get ready for our Christmas party.

Nice job on the bridge. I wasn’t so successful. I wandered all over those rocks down there and just couldn’t get the angle I wanted when I tried to do HDR there. I see that you figured out the secret to keeping the bridge from angling right out of the top corner: stay higher up. I was trying to hard to get the rocks in the foreground. That side of the bridge is sure the place to be though because the late afternoon sun really brings out the character in that wood. I guess I could go there at sunrise and see the same thing on the other side. NOT!

Yeah I wondered around for a few to find a good spot. I was tired from shooting an engagement right before that. I tried to do some HDR with the couple but they wouldn’t stand still enough.

You got some decent clouds to work with too. It was my first time doing HDR with a tripod and multiple exposures rather than using one RAW image.

The wind blew and the flower in the foreground moved. Don’t know why I even bothered processing it with that and the bridge going off in the top corner like that. Do you use photoshop or Photomatix?
